The Smith Family and James we are so sorry to hear of Joans passing, you have our heart felt sympathy. We were blessed in many ways living next door to Joan and Lewis. Right from the get go they made us feel welcomed to the neighborhood. They were great neighbors to us for thirty plus years. They seen our children grow up and even got to meet three of the four grandchildren. They were genuinely interested in our children and on many occasions they had long talks about growing up, traveling, schooling, sports, careers and lots of history. We shared many conversations with a beer or two; whether it be about the Bears and Packers, the Republican Party / Democratic Party, how your grass and weeds grow to gardening. Joan was one of those people that was gifted with a green thumb. She could take a start from most any plant and make it grow. She knew all about flowers and herbs and shared her knowledge of them with us. Lewis was a perfectionist when it came to maintaining his lawn and could cut straight lines like he was tied to a construction string. Lewis was a talented musician, not only could he sing but he could play the concertina. Everyone loved to hear him sing and play it. Joan loved pets and always had treats on hand for them, she even taught our dog Zoey to say “I Love You”. This brought many smiles to everyone and Zoey always loved the treats. They were true neighbors and friends, they new where to go if they needed a cup of sugar or an egg and we knew where to go if we needed a little flour, advice, etc. These things make great neighbors and they will be truly missed. We loved them. Demetrius and Michele Schaaf

So many wonderful years of friendship - she was such a delight and so talented. I was privileged to know her and be her friend -- from playing bridge, having parties, digging up trees, so much laughter. She was a joy! Her family can be so proud of her but will be deeply missed. My best to Greg - and also James.
