For nearly 100 years, the Sommerfeld Chapel has been a place of solace and celebration for families in New Buffalo and the surrounding lake communities. From the moment you come to plan your loved one’s celebration of life, our staff will focus on the details so you can focus on your family and friends. You will be treated like family whether you live here year-round or call this home only during the summer months. 

We can host one large or two small services in our historic building which we remodeled to ensure it’s ADA accessibility. There is a separate room where you can find privacy or offer snacks to your guests as well as a special room where children can watch DVDs or play quietly. We will have coffee and water available for you and your guests, and if you want to host a funeral luncheon or meal, we can help you find a place to gather. 

Personalizing your loved one’s service is very important to our staff. We’ve welcomed horse-drawn carriages, fire trucks and police cruiser cavalcades and even brought a loved one’s musical organ into the chapel so it could be played during the service.
