Joan K. Smith, 95, of St. Joseph, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at 1PM, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 11AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan, 5400 S. Joan on was born on December 18, 1926, to Harold & Beatrice (Hartig) Zimmerman in Osceola, IN. She graduated from Mishawaka High School. On August 12, 1945, Joan married the love of her life Lewis Smith at the Oceola Methodist Church. They were happily married until Lewis passing in 2017.
Joan enjoyed arts & crafts; she was known for her beautiful quilts and making Santas. She also enjoyed tending to her garden. Her most cherished time was with her family as they were most important.
Joan is survived by her son Greg (Roxann Pappas) Smith of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Jeffery (Ashley) Smith of St. Joseph and Carley Smith of St. Joseph; great-grandchildren, Ella and Jack; and special care taker James Busby.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Smith; siblings, Jean Warner Magrane and Jack Zimmerman; and parents, Harold & Beatrice Zimmerman.
