we always called him "Bear" on the SHHS football team. Wonder how long that nickname stuck with him? He was always a calm, unassuming, gentle guy but when he got on the football field that guy across the line from him better watch out He was a bear! He usually missed the team dinner on Fridays and would show up for the home games shortly before the game started. He would matter-of-factly tell the coach that he had been working on getting a crop in and the whole thing would blow over.
Condolences to family and friends. He will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Carl's passing. I just heard about it. I worked for and with Carl for many years starting from my mid teens. I first met Carl in high school. Of course I was only one year old at the time. He was in my dad's FFA class and dad took me to school one day. (There's a picture somewhere) Carl was like a second father and made me feel a part of the Filbrandt and Hinz family. Carl and his family and my family took several vacations together. My heart is breaking right now with all my memories.
