David's Memory Wall
We encourage you to share your most beloved memories of David here, so that the family and other loved ones can always see it. Share your favorite stories or comment on those shared by others.
I worked with Dave at UPS for many years as his aid in the air sort when it got overloaded and covered the air sort when he took vacations. He was a kind considerate man with an even temper who took his job very seriously. He cared about UPS very much, it was extended family to him. I remember seeing all the photos of all the old ups employees hanging on his rec room walls. He was always concerned about the air sort being taken care of and was exceptional at doing his job. He loved to go fishing , morel hunting , canoeing and had a deep respect for the great outdoors! he was a very good pool player and an exceptional wood carver! A true artist! He told me many stories. One in particular was when he was a young man applying to get a job at UPS , On the way to his interview his car had broke down in the rain and so he ran the rest of the way there in the poring rain, when he finally got there he was soaking wet and he explained to them what had happened . They were so impressed with this they asked him when he could start. I will miss you Dave and all your interesting stories. My condolences to Cathy and the rest of his family. Rest in peace my friend.

Sorry that Dave wasn't able to enjoy a nice, long retirement. He did a good job at work, took pride in his work, and I enjoyed his friendship at UPS for 30+ years. He was merciless on me when I was his loader, he enjoyed the drive to South Bend with the day's late air, he loved to see the occasional rainbows out the back overhead door, and bemoaned sending trucks out dirty the next day. My condolences to the family, he was taken too soon.

I went to school with David. He was in my class (Class Of '77) and I remember him being in my 6th Grade class with Mr. Fitch at Jefferson Elementary School in St. Joe,,,and later at St. Joseph Senior High School and even remember him telling me about some of his pheasant and rabbit hunting stories while we were students in Mr. Fitch's classroom. After 6th Grade, David went to Upton Jr. High while I went to Milton, and I remember competing against David on the football field at Wells Field during the 7th grade. He played the "Nose Guard" position and I remember having to run into him a few times. He was a very tough and determined competitor! I also remember David was an avid outdoorsman and how he got an early start shooting shotguns, and hunting, etc at a young age. About 4-5 years later after graduating from high school, I finally had the opportunity to go pheasant hunting with David along with a mutual friend, John "Willie" Williams (another '77 Classmate) one day. David was a highly experienced and skilled hunter. I lost track of David over the years after that as I have lived in the Grand Rapids/Hudsonville area for the last 30+ years or so now. Although I have not seen David since hunting with him in all these past years, I was fond of David and will miss him as we shared a very small piece of life together, growing up as boys since Elementary School...and I will admit his passing has caught me by surprise as I am the same age, and knowing David since we were just young boys in school, but it is something that we must accept more and more frequently as we grow older in our later years. It's just a part of life...life is short and precious. My thoughts and prayers go out to David's wife Cathrine his children and all his family, friends and people that were in the sphere of David's influence in this difficult time. ...and to all or anyone reading these words, I hope you all realize that God LOVES us ALL---EVERYONE!-----and every individual one of you are special in the eyes of the Lord Jesus Christ. John 3:3,7...Romans 10:9,10,13
