The world is forever changed by every life. Aunt Oleda was so much of what formed my understanding of family in my early life. It’s not that she will be missed, as she has been missed. I hope she sees glory, this woman who read Shakespear, met us stepping off a passenger car pulled by a locomotive, dressed for the city, and persevered in grace in the face of tragedy. The eldest of three sisters of Irish and German lineage, who met history, rode s planet, and secured her future by a quiet faith. I’m glad she was part of my life. Her life is s tribute to everything that speaks of home.

I remember Aunt Oleta as a special visitor, arriving by train, the Illinois Central, from Kankakee, Illinois and later from Chicago to our home in Mattoon, Illinois. My mom, Elaine, was her sister. Later we moved to Denver, Colorado, the only change was she arrived by train there too. Always willing to lend a hand, be a part of our Christmas, but mostly that special visitor, that lovely smile, her pleasant demeanor. I did not know Phil well, had met him, and noticed how happy they were together, glad they had each other, and to those in Dowagiac, that knew my Aunt Oleta, cared, and helped her, thank you. Friends are among the best things anyone can accomplish. Greg and Mary Janes and family will always feel her love. She was a great source of love for all.
