I remember Virginia fondly, she was our kind neighbor who built her lovely log cabin right on Pipestone Creek on Watson Rd. When inside, it felt like I had stepped back into the world of Laura Ingalls Wilder! When I was in High School Virginia even taught me how to spin yarn on her spinning wheels in her log cabin. I remember how she dyed the wool using natural vegetables and herbs that she grew herself. She was always the educator and was generous with her knowledge. Before living simply in tiny houses was a popular thing, Virginia was living her log cabin dream, dying, carding, spinning and weaving with the sounds of the creek gurgling musically beside her. I hope that her slice of heaven includes that lovely log cabin, Pipestone Creek, a cup of hot tea and never ending skeins of soft yarns in all the colors of the rainbow.

We never met Virginia in person, but we lived her adventures through her cherished friend and neighbor Beth Johnston. Beth kept us entertained with stories of Virginia s never ending love of her homestead and her community. She left a mark on many throughout her years of service, not only to her friends but the love she had for her home and its history.

Virginia was a beloved member of our community. She and her siblings were adored by their mother, Mary (my fifth grade teacher.) Virginia will be missed.
