I was saddened to hear of Steve's passing. I met Steve several years ago when I was looking to purchase hay for my herd of goats. I was given his name by a co-worker. From the first time I met Steve I could tell he was a helpful, outgoing individual. Never a dull moment with Steve around. He was my hay guy for many years. If I was short on hay and needed some right away he would say, " how much do you need? You know where it's at, go help yourself. There was always a lot of nice conversation with Steve on the farm. Rest is peace my friend. Thoughts and Prayers to the family.

Steve will be missed by many. His sudden departure leaves a big hole and my heart aches for his family. Growing up, Steve's family and mine were farm neighbors and friends. We worked and played together. Back then he was "Steven" to us. Growing up Steven seemed kind of quiet and shy. Poor guy, he was always surrounded by girls. He had 3 sisters and there also 3 of us Mesko girls. How could he get a word in edgewise? Steve always had a sense of humor. He loved to laugh. I remember one Saturday when I got to go to the movies in Dowagiac with Steve and sister, Sue. It was a silly movie called "Snowball Express". We laughed till our sides ached. Steve was always popular and well loved by all in school. One time I got to stay over on a school night with Sue and it was Steve's turn to pack the school lunches. I remember feeling pretty honored that Steve Waldschmidt had packed my lunch. I grew up, left farming behind and moved away. But farming was in Steve's blood. He worked hard all his life and contributed much to his home community. It just so happened that I gave birth to a farmer and as the Lord would have it, my son, Mike and Steve crossed paths through Mike's job in feed sales. They became good friends. The two have much in common with their humor and love for farming. I was pretty tickled when I learned of this connection. I will think of Steve whenever I get a whiff of freshly cut hay or see cattle grazing in green pastures on farms with pretty red barns. I will miss his giggles and how contagious his laughter was. God Bless his family during this difficult time. May the seeds he planted in his lifetime leave a lasting legacy that brings a bountiful harvest of goodness to the ones he leaves behind. With Tears and Love, Gail Mesko Hertsel

I met Steve when he came out to California to help Patricia move back to Michigan with him. He literally swept her (and the dogs) off their feet. What a guy. My deepest condolences to the Waldschmidt family during this difficult time. RIP Steve.

I Remember all the good times at the Cass Fair and after fair parties. playing softball. And all the times Steve would see me at events and jobs over the Year's, Steve would always joke with me about " I hear it Frosted last night. Steve was a great guy. I am so sorry to the family for your loss. Jack Frost

My wife Della and I were so set back at the sudden passing of Steve. We went to school together at Cassopolis where Steve was a couple grades Benin’s me . Where I really got to know Steve at first was through 4-H all our lives mainly by showing pigs with each other at the Cass Co Fair and the Michigan State Fair in Detroit. And that is where Steve incurred the nickname of Joey Chitwood ! Joey Chitwood would do car stunts in an act in front of the grandstands at the State Fair. When Steve got his drivers license he pretty much drove like Joey Chitwood fast and carefree which was okay unless you rode with Steve which could quickly become very scary😬 I will always remember Steve as a fun loving jokesters with a kind respectful heart and who always worked hard and never let grass grow under his feet! We will miss you dearly my friend and I will always keep the memories I have of you in my heart ! Prayers to the whole family and friends with Steve’s passing. May you Rest In Peace Steve

To the family you have my deepest condolences. Steve and I ran track together and I was a Senior when he was a sophomore. Endless jokes , all day and even at track meets where we truly kicked azz. We continued our friendship when we both adults and the jokes and laughter continued. I will always remember his smile and text message jokes to me. ONE HELLUVA GUY. R.I.H.
