Bob's Obituary

Robert M. “Bob” Dongvillo, 72, of St. Joseph, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.

Bob was born on June 20, 1950, to Felix & Reginia (Nowicki) Dongvillo. He graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1968 and continued his education by attending and graduating from Western Michigan University. On November 24, 1973, Bob married the love of his life, Ruth Richards, in Dearborn, Michigan. Bob is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Ruth; children, Michael Dongvillo & Megan Dongvillo; grandchildren, Campbell Shell & Molly Heddle; and brother, David (Darlene) Dongvillo. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Felix & Regina Dongvillo; and sister, Barbara Schuler.

The creator of tricky voicemail greetings, Bob began farming the family farm in 1992. His love and pride for the vineyard was very apparent as displayed by his herculean work ethic. Up before sunrise and pulling all-nighters just to avoid traffic during harvest was just his way of doing things. While he may have been a Bronco alumni, he spent his time cheering on the Spartans and Fighting Irish.

Bob was an honest, kind, generous man who would do anything for those close to him. He was a proud husband, father, and grandfather. He would go without for himself to help out his children or grandchildren. His presence as a grandfather will be dearly missed and a difficult void to fill.

Although our hearts are very heavy with our sudden loss, we will celebrate his life with family and friends knowing he is watching over us, now and forever.

A time of gathering will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, from 4 PM until 8 PM, with Catholic Prayers taking place at 7 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. A time of sharing will immediately follow. A private burial will be held at North Shore Memory Gardens at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Grape Society, P.O. Box 151, Baroda, MI 49101. Bob’s family would like for his friends and family to share memories with them that can be shared during a time of sharing on Wednesday. Those wishing to leave an online condolence or memory may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
