Miss Martha was one of a kind! So consistently thoughtful through the years. She was one of the ladies who led me through a tough time of life with her love for Jesus and her love for me. That sweet little voice on the phone wishing a happy birthday - and she always knew the number of years - was always such a treat. Whenever I would visit she would always give me a Little Debbie treat for the trip home. I know she was excited to finally be with Jesus. It was what she lived for all her life. So happy for her!

My daughter Ashley and I loved Martha so much. What a wonderful example of a true Christian lady. We loved volunteering with her at the nursing home when Ashley played the harp for church services and me and Martha served juice and cookies. Ashley kept bees so her and Martha talked so much about Francis and her bees and honey! We visited at her home and saw how much she loved the Gaithers and Sandy Pattie! We talked of hummingbirds and deer and turkeys! She was such a joy! We even have memories of coming to their Christmas tree farm with the girls preschool and Francis showing us where the deer slept at night and all the trees he planted and his bees! How we will miss sweet Martha! I am so glad of the example she set for my daughters and for her genuine love for Jesus!

D. Dee, Cindy & Doug We loved your mother! Aunt Martha has been an integral part of our family for half a century and she will continue to be an ongoing source of inspiration. The Sunday school song "This little light of mine" describes her perfectly. She used her faith as a light for others to see. It is because of her faith that these mantras have meaning for us; "Give it to God" and "Thank you Jesus". May your mother's light give you comfort during this time of remembrance. Great Aunt Martha will be greatly missed by us! She was like a surrogate grandma to me and great grandma to my boys; I have wonderful memories of Easter egg hunts in her back yard, watching turkeys and all the birds she fed out her window, and as a child collecting monarch caterpillars from her flowers so I could watch them turn into butterflies. I remember Great Uncle Francis showing kids on field trips how to remove a bee stinger and my mom and I getting a little Christmas tree for our apartment from his tree farm every year. He came into the donut shop I worked at as a teenager regularly and was always ready with a smile and a hug, and that is my consolation for the loss of Aunt Martha- knowing she is home in heaven with her soulmate. Her faith and strength of character, her consideration of others (never failing to call on a birthday!) will forever be an inspiration in my life. We love you Great Aunt Martha!

Doug, as you know, I’ve known your mother since I was about 16. She was always cheerful, happy and ready with a joke. We kept in touch all these years and she would always make me take a treat after taking her to an appointment or after a visit. I loved her so much and will sorely miss her.

DDee, Annette and Doug, I am so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. She was such a good friend and support to my mother for decades, starting when my mom had a serious postpartum illness…Martha came by every single day for weeks to help with groceries, baby care, whatever was needed. And she did the same when my mom was ill in her final days. Martha and Frances were a lot of fun and good friends to our whole family, as are DDee, Annette and Doug still. My deepest sympathy. Love, MaryLou and “Lillian”

Doug & family... we always enjoyed Martha's enthusiasm and sense of humor while serving together @ First Baptist. She truly won our hearts while we often sang Christmas carols at her home and she responded with her home-made chocolate covered cherries. May God comfort you during this season of loss.

Doug & Family, It is with sadness that we heard of your loss. Martha was not only a customer but a friend. She always took the time to say hello and to leave a kind note or thank you. She had a special way about her and we know how great of impact she had with everyone she met. She will be missed dearly, but the memory of her caring & gentleness will be remembered by all that knew her. Thoughts and prayers for you all. ~ Signature Toyota
