I have had a handful of amazing teachers in my life and Joyce was one of them - as she was for so many!! I had her in 2nd grade and she and I had a great bond. We would go on over the years to keep in touch and write letters. She actually just wrote me a letter about a month ago after not speaking to her for years. I was so happy and deeply touched receiving her letter and hearing from her. The letter is sitting on my table where I was going to send her a letter back and just hadn't got to it yet. I'm so sorry Joyce - I know that she knew how meaningful she was in my life and what an impact she made on me at such a young age. You will be missed.

i met Joyce in my first year of teaching Head Start and she was someone who loved people as well as children, she taught me a lot in the years we worked together and many parents asked about her when the additional Head Start building went up in SH. She will be missed by many. Her memory will live on in SH for the many families and children who knew her, Rest in the Peace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, Joyce. Dustin and Rob and the grandchildren should know what a gift she was from our Lord.

Joyce was the one that inspired me to become an elementary teacher when I was her high school helper in her first grade classroom. She was an excellent teacher and made learning fun! I taught for over 30 years and ended up teaching Kindergarten right across the hall from her at Lincoln School. . She will be missed! Hugs and love to her family! ?

Joyce was such an absolutely amazing woman. She was my first grade teacher and also pre school teacher for all three of my sons. There are no words to express the loss I feel along with sooo many others. She had a way of making you feel so absolutely special and you could take on the world. She was there for me when I lost my baby brother when I was 7 yrs old, my 17 year old son died in 2001, and when my husband died in 2009. That's a true friend and a very special person. No matter how large a room was she would make sure she got to me for a hug. I will miss her terribly. I love you and miss you Mrs. Byrd and Mrs. Weber. You are a true Angel.

My condolences to Joyce's family on their loss. I first met Joyce when she taught two of my children in "Tyke Enrichment" - basically a summer camp/school for kids about to enter kindergarten. Andy and Emily both loved her! She was a good person, and I'm blessed to have made her acquaintance.
