James E. “Mr. Jim” Price, 92, formerly of Coloma, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Pine Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation in Stevensville.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Gary Sprunger officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date at Coloma Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from Noon until 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial donations in Jim’s name may be made to Caring Circle Hospice or the North Berrien Senior Center in Coloma. Jim was born May 19, 1930 in Reynolds, Missouri to Tyman & Goldie (Johnston) Price. He moved to Benton Harbor as a teenager and later served as a deacon at the Baptist Church in Benton Harbor. He was a man of strong faith. After he developed a love for cars and mechanics, an early endeavor was maintaining the go-carts at the House of David Amusement Park. Jim’s main passion was his ownership of Price’s Sunoco at the corner of Pipestone & Empire in Benton Harbor. It was there, he was known as “Mr. Jim” by all the locals & customers. The service station served as a neighborhood hangout where all the guys came to visit and drink soda pop. Jim operated the station until the early 90’s.

On December 23, 1976 he married the former Mary Ellen Schafhauser. They were members of the North Berrien Senior Center and together enjoyed many a trip sponsored by the senior center. They also enjoyed music and dancing whenever they could. In his free time, Jim enjoyed tending to his house, yard and pool. Most of all, Jim cherished the time spent with his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jim is survived by his children-Claudia (Michael) Hanley of St. Joseph, Mark (Diane) Price of Stevensville, Jill McRee of Grand Rapids, MI, Janet (Thomas) Collard of Whitmore Lake, MI; his daughter-in-law Dyanna Price of Zephyr Hills, FL; eight grandchildren; numerous great & great-great grandchildren; his brother Harold “Red” (Lee) Price of Carey, NC; and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his former wife Delores Schrag on June 19, 2018, his wife Mary Ellen on August 15, 2013, two sons-Jimmy & Guy Price, his sisters-Doris Tole, Pat Kelly, Reba Greer, Glady Jenkins and Gladys Mantai, and his parents Tyman P. Price & Goldie Johnston Wallace.
