Hollis's Obituary
A public visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Filbrandt Chapel, South Haven, on Thursday, January 25, 2024. The funeral service will start at 1 p.m. and then process to McDowell Cemetery for a graveside service. Pastor Eric Jarvis of 1st Assembly of God, South Haven, will officiate the service.
Hollis is survived by his wife, Alva Lee (Neal) Hiatt, whom he married in May 2010. He is also survived by his 2 sons, Jeff (Kim) Hiatt and Toby (Marjana) Hiatt, 5 grandchildren, Alaina, Emelia, Lydia, Stella, and Oliver. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Donald and Marvin Hiatt, and Virgil Newberry.
When Holly married Alva he gained two stepsons, Billy (Marcy) Hiatt and Richard (Ramona) Hiatt and grandchildren, Melanie (Drew) Flynn, Jonathan (Katy) Hiatt, Chelsey Colwell, Katelynn (Blake) Dickey, Shelby (James) Stone, Jayne Hiatt and Kay-Lee Hiatt; numerous great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces and other family members. Holly was particularly fond of a few nephews; Tony and Terry Newberry and Rusty Hiatt who provided support and made frequent visits.
Prior to retirement, Hollis had worked for GTE which then became Verizon and later becoming part of Frontier. Holly loved being a dad and grandfather. When his two sons were growing up he was actively involved in their sports and coaching the different teams. He even built a dirt bike track in the backyard for Toby to practice. He loved animals and had a number of dogs, cats, a donkey and even horses. He had a love of outdoors, worked outdoors for the majority of his career and loved to fish, camp, and especially to ride and travel on his motorcycle.
Holly loved sports and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. You could usually catch him sporting a Packers sweatshirt and he had a flag flying proudly in the front yard. Holly was always up for a debate whether he was wrong or right. He enjoyed tinkering and fixing things as well as watching birds and enjoyed adding new lawn ornaments to the landscaping.
Holly had a love of people, he loved to visit with his family, and would often call or catch up on social media with family and friends. He frequently called to see what was new and happening with his children and grandchildren. He would stop in and check on and chat with his neighbors. If you knew Holly he loved to joke and have fun. He was quick witted and always ready with a funny joke, comment, or prank.
