When I was 13 years old, I met with Sheriff Nick Jewell... under very difficult circumstances. He was a very honorable man who stood by me for justice when I needed it most. I have always had a special place in my heart for this gentleman. Thank you for standing up for me and protecting a scared young girl. You showed me there are decent and upstanding men still here to help those needing compassion and understanding.

I been retired from Berrien County Sheriff Department for 23 years. I often would reminisce how fortunate I was to work for Sheriff Jewell. His faith and integrity were second to none. He built a department of loyalty and pride. Nick brought together local and state departments to work as one...this concept was very successful during his tenure as Sheriff. You were the best you could be...God Bless You!

After hearing about this icon of a man ALL my life, I finally got to meet him at Woodland Terrace. He was such a gentle man (he was the Sherrif?), thoughtful and witty, and so in love with Arlice and his God. He asked me if we could sing "The Love of God" at one of our Saturday music hours - I told him we would do it next time I was there. I had it ready, but it was the day of Arlice's funeral. I kept it in my notebook for this month. I am sorry he won't be there to sing it, but we are going to do it in his memory. My prayers go out to all who knew and loved him. I am glad I finally got to meet him.

Our Condolences to the entire Jewell family and their loved ones. Sheriff Jewell was not only the best boss, he was a friend, an honorable patriot who loved God and his country, and also one of the best Law Enforcement leaders this state has ever seen. He brought pride, integrity, and honor with the badge and uniform; just as his honorable (Chief Deputy) brother, Don Jewell did in his years of service to Berrien County. It was a privilege and an honor to work under both of them and they will be missed greatly. They will always remain close in my loving memory… Ray & Mary Damaske Stevensville, Michigan

Sheriff Jewell gave me a graciously kind welcome to Berrien County when I was a young Trooper. I remember his retirement party with hundreds in attendance to honor his service; an amazing tribute to a wonderful man.

Nick was a professional. A good and decent man. Working with Nick was a pleasure. I don’t think anyone ever disagreed with Nick - I never did - he had a way of discussing difficult issues in a way that included all viewpoints and resulted in a consensus driven solution. Condolences to all his family.
