I was a patient of Dr Bannow's in 1983, a twenty year old with kidney stones. I remember a kind man gently touching my arm to wake me up in my hospital bed and explaining all I needed to know to get that stone moving. He was a wonderful doctor and after he retired, I let the other doctors know that I wanted him back! I also had a friend who went to Mayo's for his kidney problem, they said "Why are you here, you have Bannow back home!" May you find comfort in knowing how much he was admired.

I was Dr. B’s surgery scheduler for 10 years. His handwriting used to give me fits-trying to decipher what surgery he wanted scheduled for his patient was a bit of a challenge sometimes. He always seemed surprised when I would ask him what he wanted scheduled. His reaction was ‘what, you can’t read that?’ Dr. B had a heart of gold and always had his patients’ best interests in mind. He was man I have deep respect for. He will be missed. Rest in Peace, Dr. B.

Barb, Karen and Elissa, I am so saddened by John’s passing. What a kind and compassionate man he was. As my father’s Dr. He was so dedicated and understanding. I will always remember him as the best. As a father he raised two wonderful daughters who not only were excellent students but also genuine and caring people. My heart goes out to you all.

I had the privilege of working with Dr. Bannow from 2003 until his retirement . He was a Good teacher, kind, funny and it showed he loved his Patients. Bob also worked for John & Barbara, painting in their homes and sharing his love for Orchids. He was a very Special person to work for and work with. Our Deepest Sympathies to Barbara and Family. John we will meet again

In 2010 I rode my first RABGRAI and John was a rider also. Over the course of the week John became a friend. He was very kind and helped me become comfortable in the crowds of people and bicycles. Then after a few years my husband joined the Whiners on Ragbrai and John made a point of helping him enjoy the experience. Some of you may not know but RAGBRAI can be overwhelming your first time. John was someone I turned to if I was feeling overwhelmed with the day. I will miss him.

What a great guy. John and Barbara were my next door neighbors for 25 years. They had the most beautiful yard you can imagine. John really loved his plants and flowers. When we visited with one another he always had a way to make me laugh. He will be missed.
