Charlie's Obituary

Charles Theodore Keebler “Charlie”, 81 of South Haven, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born February 3, 1942 to Jacob and Mary Keebler in Dearborn, Michigan. Upon graduation from Fordson High School in Dearborn, he entered the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the submarine USS Spikefish (SN-404) as a machinist mate. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, Charlie joined the Michigan State Police in 1963. He served at the posts in Ypsilanti, Niles, and Sault St. Marie where he was promoted to Sergeant in 1971 and transferred to the South Haven Post where he served the remainder of his career. While in the MSP, Charlie was a member of the Underwater Recovery Team as a diver and a firearms instructor. He retired from MSP in 1987 and worked for Stanley Smith Security where he worked as a training instructor at the Cook Nuclear Facility in Bridgeman, Michigan. While serving at the Niles Post, Charlie met and married Donna Baker and they were married 30 years upon her death in 1996.

Charlie was a member of the Michigan Steelheaders where he served as president for several years. He was also a member of The Moose Lodge and American Legion. He enjoyed riding his Harley, fishing, hunting and was a certified pilot. He loved his coffee clutch, lunch dates and breakfasts with his friends. Charlie loved to travel and spend time with family, especially during the holidays.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Filbrandt Chapel. Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Filbrandt Chapel with Pastor Eric Jarvis officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow at The First Assembly of God Church, 06500 Blue Star Highway. Memorials may be made to; Steelheaders, P.O. Charlie is survived by his son; Kurt (Debbie) Keebler, daughter; Shelley Rorabeck (Alex), sister; Charlene (Pete) Genta, nephews; John (Jennifer) Genta and Mike (Katie) Genta; niece, Sarah (Scott) Chenoweth, grandchildren; Donna Hull, Conway Hull, Jennifer Forshey, Meghan (Becky) Vandervelde, great-grandchildren; Parker and Paisley Uhl, Dakota Hull and Vance and Rowan Forshey.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Donna Keebler and his grandson; Justin Uhl.
