Betty's Obituary
Betty Lou Shurn, 100, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022. She died quietly surrounded by those she loved.
Betty was born on August 1, 1922, in Columbus, Mississippi to Enoch and Alice (Bobo) McGregory.
She was the proprietor/owner of “Betty’s Drycleaners”, 140 N. Fair, Benton Harbor, where she served the community that she loved. She was a recipient of many community awards and was highly sought after for her dry-cleaning prowess. Her clientele and patronage even spanned to outside cities and near-by states. With her 50-years in dry cleaning, she decided to retire at the age of 82.
Betty is survived by her children, Betty jean, Michael, Malvin, Lorelei (David), Owen, Everette (Audra), Preston (Laura); a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great-grandchildren and even great-great-great-great-grandchildren, as she would say with a smile.
She was preceded in death by her three children, Perry, Frank and Renee.
She will be terribly missed but we will carry her memory in our hearts always! We love you mom!
A celebration of life service will be held New Bethel Baptist Church, 2272 Townline Rd., Benton Harbor, MI 49022, on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at 12:00 PM with Rev. McAfee officiating. A burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Sodus. Memorial contributions may be made to Betty’s family in c/o Malvin Cross.
