Barbara was born September 25, 1949 in Jackson, MI to Howard & Norma (Tom) Robb. She graduated from Vandercook Lake High School in 1967. On June 20, 1970 she married Edward Hempel Sr. in Jackson, MI. Barbara was a Secretary for Berrien Springs Public Schools for 25 years.
People who knew her describe Barb as kind, friendly, sweet, and thoughtful. She found joy in locating just the right card for the occasion. Be it anniversary, sympathy, holiday, or birthday, Barb sent cards to family and friends faithfully-and without fail, her cards arrived on time. Barb was a self-confessed “cat lady”, at one point having 5 cats to love. She enjoyed playing cards with friends in her euchre club and flower gardening. Her greatest joy of all was her family, whom she loved spending time with. There are no words to describe just how caring and compassionate she was, but anyone in her presence felt her warmth. She will be forever in our hearts, remembered daily and missed greatly.
Barbara is survived by her husband Edward Hempel Sr.; children Michelle (Kevin) Fuhst, Heather (Chad) Gast and Edward Hempel Jr.; grandchildren Kevin Fuhst, Ellie Gast, Carson Gast and Aubrianna Gast; and siblings Beverly Choate and Randy (Patricia) Robb. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.
