Arvin's Obituary

Arvin was born on March 22, 1936, in Benton Harbor Michigan to Fred and Ida (Marske) Schneck. He was baptized on April 12, 1936, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stevensville, Michigan. He was also confirmed at St. Paul's in 1950.

Arvin graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1954. He served in the US Army for two years and then served in the US Army Reserves for another two years.

He married Shirley Susanne Lippert on August 22, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, Michigan. They moved to Fairplain in Benton Harbor, Mi, after having a new home built and they have lived there for 62 years.

Arvin and Shirley have three sons...James (Ruth), David (Kim), and Bryan (Deanna). A daughter, Suzanne Louise Schneck Huff died in September of 2007.

Arvin is “Papa” to fifteen grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He worked at Schneck’s Super Market which was owned by his father, Fred Schneck. After Fred died he took over the management and ownership of the business along with his brother, Allen.

Arvin and Shirley are long time members of Grace Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, Michigan, and he was active and served on various boards including Elders, Trustees, Evangelism and Ushers. After retirement he enjoyed volunteering for Harbor Habitat for Humanity for several years and being part of the “Bilco Boys.”

Arvin was preceded in death by daughter Suzanne, granddaughter Melinda Margaret, daughter-in-law Karen Trapp Schneck, parents Fred and Ida Schneck, and sister Karen Schneck Stearns.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Shirley, sons James (Ruth), David (Kim), and Bryan (Deanna). Also 15 grandchildren, Amanda Poage (Hermando), Brandon Schneck, Bethany Andersen (Luther), Andrew Huff (Jillian), Aaron Huff, Meghan Sfeir-Younis (Gabriel), Kathryn Michaelis (Scott), Jacqueline Wagner (Chase), Jennifer Zerrenner (Jake), Joseph Schneck (Kim), Justin Schneck (Jamie), Caleb Schneck (Bethany), Abigail Bronczyk (Erik), Emma Schneck, and Gideon Schneck. Also 20 great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Lorraine Neuman (Karl), Margot Pyatt (William), brother Allen Schneck, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, Michigan, Tunnel to Towers or St. Jude Childrens Hospital.

His values embraced faith and family, he reveled in the social mingling of the kitchen table, and above all welcomed the loving disorder of children. To God be the Glory.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Grace Lutheran Church, 404 Glenlord Rd., St. Joseph, MI 49085 with Pastor Joshua Bishop officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Friday, September 1, 2023 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI 49085 as well as one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
