It was an honor to meet Mr. Dewey and to have him be from South Haven. Rest in peace. You earned it after a special life.

Duane and his family were our neighbors when they lived on Ravinia Drive. I remember my parents speaking very highly of him and his service to our country. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

It was an absolute honor to get to know of the man of steel up closely as a Marine Corps Brother, combat veteran, and true HERO. All of this so graciously through the eyes and special heart of a fellow combat Marine Corps Brother of ours that we all honorably served with, Duane Deweys loving grandson, Lenny Schmit. What a complete honor to call you both, Our Brothers! It was because of Cpl. Dewey, Duane E. and his selfless acts of valor and ultimate sacrifice that would later help us get through some of our most challenging times. We thank him and his family for all their selfless sacrifices for us ALL. Our flag is at half staff in your honor, until you are rendered your last honors. Rest easy now our Warrior Brother. You have more than made us ALL PROUD! Your watch is over, and the torch has been passed on. We will continue to forever share your legacy, so that you and your heroism are NEVER forgotten. Until we meet again at our last rally point to guard the streets of Heaven, know that you have more than earned a legacy of HONOR & RESPECT, and deeply touched the hearts and souls of so many! I met Mr. Dewey before the Homecoming parade here in Gainesville over 20 years ago. He and our county vet representative Jim Lynch were handing out leaflets with information on veteran benefits in front of the football stadium. I was overwhelmed by the sacred blue ribbon around his neck, and still am. We bumped into each other quite a few times afterward, at Veterans day, memorial day, etc. What makes him a MOH recipient in my mind is his statement when we first met "the real heroes didn't make it home. What a great man, I am so lucky to have him as a role model.Semper Fi.
