Dave was truly a special guy and good friend. I worked with Dave at Bank of America and its predecessors where he worked with our mutual fund company, He was a great guy to work with and spend time with outside of work. His patience and knowledge made him an awesome mentor and teacher, except when he tried to help improve my terrible golf swing with a coat hanger.. Back in those days, Dave always had Kathryn's healthy eating and lifestyle to measure up to, so I took a lot of pleasure in grabbing him to go get a cheeseburger for lunch when he knew that he wasn't supposed to - it wasn't that difficult to convince him to go most of the time. I've missed working with Dave since he retired, but it was great to see the joy that he and Kathryn had in being able to move to Michigan and enjoy their time their together there. Kathryn you've been an amazing force in Dave's life and an incredible partner and caregiver the last few years. We will really miss such a great guy - he made a great impact on a lot of folks. Your family is in out hearts and prayers. John & Lisa Jones Dallas TX

Dave was one of the most polished gentleman I had the opportunity and pleasure of knowing. In the financial profession he was a touchstone of a real person with principles, morals and a deep faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. We loved his wonderful personality and sense of fun! Love and prayers to all of Dave’s family. He is so happy now basking in the light of his Savior! Kathy and Bob Hammontree

Dave and Kathryn have filled my heart with a special friendship and so many happy and wonderful memories thinking back to career days working with Dave at Bank of America (et al), and beyond. The obituary so beautifully written, echoes everything I have known of Dave-- by all counts a consummate gentleman with superior wit, the best sense of humor, and especially notable, a kindness and genuineness about him that was all his own. He had an ability to make any occasion special and enjoyable for everyone, and one always to look forward to. Dave (with Kathryn at his side and behind the scenes :-) dotted his I’s and crossed his T’s…there were no cut corners for any occasion, and never, ever, did he slight his choice of wine!! Dave has for certain had to leave us here before his time, but I have comfort knowing there is no better or more beautiful place than where he is. My memories of his friendship and goodness will always be cherished. All our love and prayers to you Kathryn, and to each of your family. Sincerely, Shelly and Mark Eaton

Dave possessed the greatest Cheshire cat’s grin & his command of his eyebrows was second to none (We already miss that). He was a quiet man, meaning he listened & assessed before he engaged in conversation. And once the conversation was going, one quickly knew he was a man that much could be learned. He was very well read & able to talk with facts on just about any topic that was presented (thank you for taking the time to teach so patiently). He was a man of high standards, not just with words but by his actions. He saw the big picture and was empathic to know the results of his actions & how it would affect others. Without giving details, he stood by his principles even if it resulted in less financial rewards (a true hero). We are honored to have had the privilege of knowing Dave, as well as the love of his life Kathryn. We know the he went warp speed to his maker. Wishing love & peace to his family as they deal with the loss of such a great husband, Father, and friend.

I have known Dave since 8 years old when we played Little League. Since then we played on the same sports teams in high school and worked as life guards together during the summers. During high school our other good friend and I would head over to Dave's house most every night to play ping pong and cards. After we graduated from Eastern Illinois, Dave taught my wife and myself how to play bridge and we played every Friday night after pizza at Aurelios. We were so fortunate to reconnect with Dave and to get to know Kathryn. I am very grateful to have had Dave as a good friend and for all those good times, laughs and memories. I will miss him.

We became acquainted Dave and Kathy when they moved to South Haven. Mary was a classmate of Kathy's in South Haven schools. We enjoyed regular dinners together, and Dave and I had frequent coffee meetings with local retirees. Dave had a great sense of humor, knowledge of politic''s, sports, history, and any other topic that arose. Dave and I shared a love of Chicago sports in particular and sometimes lost the attention and enthusiasm of the Michigan sports fans. When Dave had something to say, he had everyone's attention. He will be missed.

Dave was our stepdad for 30 years, during which time he embraced that role with love, warmth, thoughtfulness, and enthusiasm. He never missed the opportunity to spend time with us and was quick to offer positive and kind words or advice when he sensed that we needed it. Early in our relationship with him, Dave found a way to make the distinction between children and stepchildren disappear and he treated us and our children like there had never been a time when we were not in his life. Likewise, there will never be a time when he is not in ours. We cherish the memories we made with him, most of which involved nothing grand. We remember most vividly birthday and holiday celebrations, sitting on Mom and Dave’s front porch while enjoying the beautiful Michigan summers, or watching Seinfeld or Jeopardy. Dave was a very intelligent and clever man and was very quick on his feet in a conversation, so talking with him was enjoyable and usually quite entertaining. He treated our mom like a queen and provided her with a beautiful life that most women can only imagine and that made us love him even more. Throughout the years, we have always told anyone who would listen that we had the best stepdad that two girls could ever ask for. We were very sad to watch him struggle with Parkinson’s and other health issues over the past few years, but he faced his situation with patience, strength, and the acceptance of God’s will in his life. Our loss is definitely his gain - we are so happy for him that his struggle is over and he has now found perfect peace. We love you, Dave. Your light will never stop shining on our family. David was, quite simply, one of the best men I've ever known. To have the privilege of his family joining mine when he married my sister Kathryn brought joy to her and a continuous celebration of life to our entire family. He personified honor, keen intenigence, gentle humor and love. He usually had a twinkle in his eye while sharing his joi de vivre with everyone in his path. Our lives were enriched by knowing and loving him, and I will always treasure the memory of David Dilts. My deepest empathy and hopes for healing go out to our family and friends.
