I am so very sad to read of Dave's passing. He and Emma were our first friends at the dog park and he will be very much missed. A kind and thoughtful man, clearly brilliant and talented in so many ways. Dave often spoke of his family and teaching and traveling. Everyone knew Dave and Emma. Your whole family is in my thoughts ~ Karyn

I met Dave thru our love for tennis and Kalamazoo College. But I learned about Dave and his tennis/athletic prowess from Hall of Fame Tennis Coach George Acker, while he was recruiting me in 1978-1979. Coach knew I wanted to play both tennis and basketball at K, and gave me Dave’s athletic and academic resumes in order to let me know it could be done. Dave was an avid supporter of our annual tennis event with alums and the current K Team. Dave was a wonderful, thoughtful caring person who will be sorely missed. All of our collective thoughts and prayers go out to Dave’s family and friends.

Dave was always challenging me regarding authors on religion and theology. An avid reeader he had a wonderful understanding of some of the great authors of our time. Dave led a captivating series of talks on world religions at the church that were well attended. In addition, Dave was a strong conversationalist at a weekly men's breakfast. He wasa a great story teller who took us on adventures with his stories. One never knew what Dave would have to offer, but it was always interesting. He will be missed by all of us here at First Congregational Church. Blessings to his family.

David Tidwell was one of the most elegant men that I have ever met. I was impressed to call him my friend.

Dave was a valued football teammate at Kalamazoo College. He was not only a fine athlete, who lettered in both tennis and football at K, but also a person I was honored to call a friend. We saw each other almost not at all for the first forty years after my graduation two years ahead of him, but when we happened to meet in Kalamazoo one day, the years melted away and our friendship remained strong. I will miss his warm, friendly smile, active intellect and pleasant companionship, but remain thankful for his presence in my life. Sincere condolence to Dave's family and the many others who will miss this fine man. Harold Decker, K 67

Dave was a fantastic instructor. I am grateful I enrolled for his variety of philosophical classes through community education at LMC, South Haven campus. He invited discussion and was open to many points of view He made learning fun through his enthusiastic love for teaching and his tremendous knowledge. My heart goes out to Carol and his family. He left a beautiful legacy and had a love for life that will never die. He lives on in my heart.

I was a good friend of Dave when we were in High School. We played tennis and other sports at Edward Hines park. I lost touch with him when I moved to California. I really liked Dave. He was a wonderful friend. Never had a bad thing to say about anybody. I was 2 years older then Dave but it did not seem to make any difference to me or him. I feel lucky to have know such a nice fellow.

I was close friends with Dave and Cathy (Joba) in Saudi Arabia. My then-husband taught with him in Dhahran, and we shared many social activities with the Tidwells (including operating a still to fuel our frequent gatherings ;-). Dave was always a great source of entertainment and thought-provoking conversation. He always had big dreams, plans and exciting ideas on many topics. He will be missed.
