William's Obituary

William “Bill” Kerber, 95, of South Haven, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020 at his home with his family present. Bill was born September 5, 1924 to William G. and Amelia (Weckbach) Kerber in Springfield, Massachusetts. Bill honorably served his country in the United States Army in World War II as a medic. Following his military service, Bill earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Western Michigan University. He taught German and English literature at Kalamazoo Central for 25 years before retiring in 1979. He married Martha Victor on June 29, 1952. They shared 68 years in marriage. Bill loved to fish, was a skilled wood worker, and enjoyed spending winters in Florida with Martha. Bill enjoyed listening to big band music and faithfully watched the Lawrence Welk Show with family.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother – John L. Kerber.

Bill is survived by his wife – Martha Kerber of South Haven; children – Bill Kerber of South Haven, Tom (April) Kerber of Bangor, Bob (Lidia) Kerber of Coloma, and Paul (Lynn) Kerber of South Haven. Thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, June 19, 2020 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jeffrey S. Dick officiating at the funeral home. Bill will be laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery in South Haven. Contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to the Caring Circle Hospice at Home, 05055 Blue Star Highway, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
