Jeanne's Obituary
Jeanne Hallgren, 87, of Glenn, passed away Monday, March 23, 2020 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. Jeanne was born in Casco Township, Michigan on May 9, 1932. She was the daughter of Arthur and Ruth (Galbreath) Mileham. She grew up in Casco where she attended McDowell school, a one room school; and graduated from Central High School in South Haven in 1951. After graduation, she moved to Grand Rapids where she worked in the office of a trucking company for two years. In 1953, she married Lauren Hallgren upon his return from Korea. They were married for 63 years.
After a year and a half living in Florida while Lauren attended school, they moved to Saugatuck, Michigan. Jeanne was very involved in their children’s school activities. She was a cub scout den mother for five years, baked dozens of cookies for school parties, and volunteered to go on many field trips. Jeanne served on the Saugatuck Township Bicentennial Committee that raised the money to build the Bandstand in Wicks Park. After moving back to Casco, she became the secretary for Overhiser Reunion for the next 20 years and at the same time became treasurer for the Glenn United Methodist Church for 23 years. She never committed to anything for a short term.
Jeanne was a local history buff. When asked by a granddaughter why she wrote books, she replied “Because I can’t remember anything. If I get it into a book, I can always look it up.” She was a member of the Glenn United Methodist Church and served on committees for many Glenn Fests and homecomings.
She is preceded in death along with her parents and husband by children – Joanne Hallgren, Janet Conklin, and James L. Hallgren; siblings – Shirley Pratt and Arthur “Dale” Mileham; step-siblings – Marianne Snidt, Robert Doan, and Richard Doan.
Jeanne is survived by her children – Jack Hallgren, Jeffrey (Evelyn) Hallgren, Jon (Wendy) Hallgren, Josh (Leslie) Hallgren, Jerry (Tina) Hallgren, Jill Bergsma, and Joy Lamb. 12 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren also survive.
Memorial services will be on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at 3:00 P.M. at the Glenn United Methodist Church with Reverend Philip F. Harrington and Reverend Stephen Small officiating.
