Arlene's Obituary

Arlene Stover, 82, of Berrien Springs, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ, Thursday, July 29, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Arlene was born June 25, 1939 in Zeeland, Michigan to Russell and Janet Cranmer. She graduated from Zeeland High School, and received her Bachelor and Masters’ degrees from Michigan State University where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. After graduation, she fulfilled her life-long career choice of teaching, by accepting a position at Haslett Middle School. She then accepted a teaching job at Lakeshore High School where she taught English and served as department chair, Curriculum Council member, National Honor Society Advisor, class advisor, and other club’s advisors. Arlene retired after forty years of teaching. Arlene was a former member of the Berrien Springs Civic League and J-Shes, and volunteered at the Berrien County Youth Fair. A member of Arden United Methodist Church, she enjoyed decorating the Church for special holidays, and taught Bible School at several Berrien Springs Churches. She was a member of the John A. Van Den Bosch Co. Board of Directors in Holland, Michigan. Family and family activities and traditions were always central in her life. She enjoyed watching her children’s and grandson’s sporting and other activities. Traveling, walking, watching sunsets-especially over the Gulf, and rainbows were some of her favorite activities. Arlene loved nature and was a life-long learner. Arlene is survived by her daughter and son-in-aw Michele and Scott Vaerewyck of South Bend, IN; grandson Nolan Stover of Berrien Springs, MI; aunts and uncles-Fred and Carol Van Den Bosch of Holland, MI, Loraine Van Den Bosch of Zeeland, MI, Ruth Vander Bie of Holland; and special in-laws Sally and Jim Behlen of Berrien Springs; a special niece, nephews and cousins; and her collie Izzy. Arlene was preceded in death by her son Rick Stover, her parents Janet and Russell Cranmer, brother Kenneth Cranmer, a special sister-in-law Sandra Barefield and several aunts and uncles. Per Arlene’s request, Private graveside services have been held. In her memory share a smile and a kind word. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to Arden United Methodist Church.
