Robert Lee Dearing

Robert L. “Bob” Dearing passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Pine Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Stevensville. He was born on March 18, 1937 in Benton Harbor, the only child of Robert E. and Jeannette M. Dearing. Bob graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1955 and went on to Benton Harbor Junior College and completed his education at Western Michigan University. Bob enlisted in the Michigan National Guard and served for eight years. He then joined is father in the family business of Dearing Office Machines later to become Dearing Office Systems. Bob was a Past President of the St. Joseph Lions Club. He served as Cabinet Secretary for the District Governor and was instrumental in the creation of many other Lions Clubs throughout Southwest Michigan. Bob was a dedicated volunteer with the North Lincoln Baseball Association and the St. Joseph High School Football Boosters. In 1963 he married “The Love of His Life” Lydia Barnak, and they enjoyed 57 years together. He was father to Robert J. (Michelle) Dearing and Susan Dearing-Bond (Michael). He was also the extremely proud Boppa of three amazing grandchildren: Hailey Bond, Julia Dearing and Robert Dearing. Bob enjoyed fishing, traveling, golfing and reading. He was also a true dog lover – and never met a dog he didn’t like. Woof! In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wanting to remember Bob, perform a random act of kindness for a child or a dog. Donations may also be made to St. Joseph First United Methodist Church. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at 3PM, at St. Joseph First United Methodist Church, 2950 Lakeview Ave., St. Joseph, with Pastor Dan Colthorp officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, April 24, 2021, from 2PM until time of the service at the church. Covid safety precautions will be taken and masks are required.
