Edward's Obituary

Edward G. “Ed” Kolm, 88, of Berrien Springs, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, peacefully at his home. A graveside celebration of life service will be held at 11AM, on Friday, May 22, 2020, at Union Cemetery in Berrien Center, with Pastor Robert Duehlmeyer officiating. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.heritage-chapel.com. Ed was born in Evanston, IL, to Gustav & Marie (Laube) Kolm on June 1, 1931. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1949. He then enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country for four years before being honorably discharged in 1955. On October 5, 1957, Ed married the love of his life Barbra Foster at the First Presbyterian Church in Niles. He worked as a Postal Worker for the United States Postal Service before his retirement in 1992. Ed was a member of the Masonic Lodge- Berrien Springs/Niles and volunteered for the Berrien County Youth Fair. He enjoyed fixing things and always willing to lend a helping hand. Most of all, he loved to spend his time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ed is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbra Kolm of Berrien Springs; daughters, Carol (William) Nutt of Berrien Springs and Karen (Ken) Klug of Eau Claire; grandchildren Amy (Fritz) Knauf, Sara (Andy) Buursma and Allyson Nutt; great-grandchildren, Sam, Suzy, Ellie, Molly, Zoey and Dublin. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav & Marie Kolm; sisters, Lillian Hetler, Martha Collins and Olga Johnson; and grandson Scott Nutt.
