Jan and other family members,
Mom, Helyn Hillyer, sends her condolences to the family. She truly enjoyed being a neighbor to your mother and dad. I know that I will miss seeing her friendly wave when we visited. Our thoughts and prayers to you all.

Beautiful, gentle, kind and caring; where does the list end? Jan and Wayne provided such a wonderful safety net for me and my young family when we were starting out - great memories. Thanks for a life well lived, Jan. Love, Ron

Jan was a special lady who loved her family, friends , and Decatur community. She supported our Decatur School, her church, Study Club, Webster Library, and Human Services. She was a very devoted caregiver to her family, an example of the best of caregivers for all of us to see. She was kind, loving, a good friend, and a good listener. Jan will be missed by all of us. We treasure d her friendship.

I was saddened to hear about the passing of Mrs. Hellenga. She was a wonderful person who always supported the school and the community. I was fortunate to have visited with her a few times since I moved back to Decatur. In each visit with her and with Mr. Hellenga, I was always welcomed into their home and treated with kindness. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hellenga had the gift of making you feel special. At the conclusion of each visit, I really felt that they listened to me and they only wanted the best for me and my family. Decatur was fortunate to have had people like Mr. and Mrs. Hellenga live in the community. Patrick Creagan

Jans family, I knew Jan when in Decatur High. She was a wonderful woman and full of life and love for her family. I had Wayne as a teacher. My cousin Gordon Krum & Opal were good friends of theirs. I spent time with Gordy and Opal so knew Wayne & Jan other than from school. Knowing the two of them made me a better person through my life.
