I meet Emma Jean at the Migrant Resource Council, she was very kind and passionate about her work, she cared so much about the work she did and was always willing to assist and support others with any resources she had. She always shared information at all of the meetings and I really enjoyed talking to her, she will be missed and I am sure others feel the same way. My condolences to the family, I am sure that she is a huge lost to the community.

The Van Buren DHHS family in Hartford is deeply saddened by the news of her passing and joins the family and the community in these sad moments
Emma Jean was a long time champion for Van Buren families and her passion and dedication to help the less fortunate in our communities will be sorely missed. She served on The DHHS Human Services Board from 1994 through 2012 and was chairperson of such board for many years. Emma Jean was an active advocate for families through her arduous work with Decatur Human Services, most notably during the heating season, she made sure that families had heat in their homes and food on their tables. It would not be rare for her to contact workers throughout our office to partner in covering a past due heating bill or help a family complete the funding for a fuel delivery. Emma Jean lead our community coalition of “FEMA Emergency Food and Shelter Program” bringing together a variety of Churches and Organizations to serve the most needy members of our community. She was steadfast in her advocacy and humble about her role. Her drive was to help others and her passion was evident in every interaction. She never backed down from any issue, no matter how unpopular, and championed the rights and safety of the most vulnerable of our citizens. She will be sorely missed in Van Buren County specially by the social services partners throughout our communities.
