David Allen Berner, 52, of Union Pier, MI passed away in his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 21, 2018. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel – 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.
David was born on September 30, 1965 in DeWitt, Iowa to Larry and Dorian (Kahler) Berner. On June 1, 1990 in Chicago he married Ruta Valavicius. His love for his wife and sons never wavered. He provided for them in so many ways, especially in his example of love. Ruta and Dave shared 28 beautiful years of marriage. Nothing could compare to the accomplishment he felt in the raising of their two sons Aidas and Simas. He took such pride in his work at Four Winds Casino, New Buffalo, MI. Whether he was enjoying the outdoors, throwing a baseball with his sons, mowing the lawn, or playing an intense game of euchre, Dave enjoyed being in the presence of family and friends. He was so grateful to his mom, brothers, and all the family and friends who took the time to travel and visit over these past few months and always. He is now at peace in the palm of God’s hand.
David is survived by his wife – Ruta; his two sons – Aidas (Colleen Dhamer) and Simas both of Westmont, IL; his mother – Dorie Fox of Hampton, IL; brothers – Steve (Tina) Berner of Tiffin, IA, Douglas (Sabina Kotov) Berner of Three Oaks, MI and Scott (Rachel) Berner of North Liberty, IA; and several nieces and nephews. David’s father – Larry Berner preceded him in death.
