Adam J. Umbrasas, 35, of New Buffalo, MI, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Memorial Hospital – South Bend, IN.
Adam was born on May 8, 1983 in Oaklawn, IL to Jonas “John” & Ludwiga (Hur) Umbrasas. Adam attended Ferris State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration. While at Ferris, Adam became a dedicated Brother of Phi Sigma Kappa – Ferris State Chapter. Beginning as a volunteer in 2006, he became the Chapter Advisor in 2007 until he was elected to the Grand Council from 2013 until 2017. In 2017, Adam began his tenure with the Phi Sigma Kappa Foundation as a Trustee. Adam’s passion in life was for communities. He loved to help different towns and villages be the best they could be and work at their full potential. In 2007, he became the Village Manager for The Village of Kingsley until 2013 when he relocated to Three Oaks and served as the Village Manager there. Most recent, Adam was employed through Wade Trim Group as their Director of Community Engagement. Another love of his was boating; he loved to be on the water enjoying the outdoors or spending time at the New Buffalo Yacht Club where he was formally a Commodore. He also was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, watching their games whenever possible. Adam was an incredible friend and brother to all; his wonderful and caring personality will truly be missed by everyone.
Adam is survived by his mother, Ludwiga of Three Oaks, MI; siblings, Monika (Michael) Vysoky of Crestwood, IL, Jonas (Yvonne) Umbrasas of Western Springs, IL, Major Karl Umbrasas of Washington D.C., Erik (Halley) Umbrasas of Union Pier, and Eve “Queen Eve” Umbrasas of Three Oaks; nieces and nephews, Cooper & Riley Vysoky and Violet & Scarlet Umbrasas; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and honorary brothers, Matt Purnell & Justin Qadri. Adam was preceded in death by his father, John.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 11:30 (EST) at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 718 W. Buffalo St., New Buffalo, MI. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 2 PM until 7 PM (EST) with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM, as well as on Friday from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM (EST) at Sommerfeld Chapel & Cremation Services, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI. As many people knew, Adam was an incredible support system for his sister, Eve or “Queen Eve”. Every year, he would send her to various camps whose focus was on helping people and families affected from down syndrome.
