LaVon Zelmer. Such a fine gentleman. I met LaVon as a boy of 5.My Father ,Johnny Wearing and Mother Margery Wearing were very close friends as a result of Barbershop Quartet singing. I vividly remember being no more than 6 and driving LaVons tractor that he had taught me to drive. Funny how a person can remember the good things from 62 years ago yet last week ? Nothing. I just want to know that whoever reads this will take note that LaVon and his wife at that time Carol were wonderful model people and remain in my memory .They always will. My brother Jonny and I both fell in cow manure at that farm. And the train in the wayback...I loved when we would stay weekends and hear the clickity clack of the train on it's tracks.By the way,LaVon got my Dad involved in Barbershop in 1956-57. Dad went on to win 3 District Championships and represented Michigan in the International Championships in 66,75 and 81. He became a Hall of Fame Member in 1996 . LaVon you did good. So sorry to see that LaVon has passed away. The time we shared as Valleyaires barbershop singers left us with lots of great memories. Our prayers and good thoughts be with you as you go through these future days.

Getting to know LaVon years ago as a Valleyaire was a wonderful experience. He was always so positive, always had a smile, a great laugh and kind word. He was so sharing with his abilities to help others improve their singing craft. And, listening to him was always a joy. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I had the honor of meeting LaVon in the most difficult circumstance. He was my husband’s roommate for a brief time in April 2018. What a gentle, mannered man. I only regret not knowing him earlier in life. Sincere condolences to Eric and Dave.

To the Zelmer family, it was an honor taking care of Mr. Zelmer! He was a great man who loves to talk about his farm, his children, and his savior! He will me missed!
