I am so shocked and saddened to hear this news about Heather. It wasn't until I read the obituary and saw the name "Hoger", that I realized that Heather was my former student. I remember her so fondly as she would come to my home in South Bend for her oboe lessons back in the late 80's. She always had a big smile on her face and was so eager. Unfortunately, as is often the case we lose touch, but I must say I'm not surprised she went on to be a music teacher and then school principal--expressing her talents and passion as she was so gifted to do. Only wish I had had the gift of knowing her also as an adult and the amazing woman she became. My deepest condolences to Heather's family, the school community and all those that knew and loved her. xxxxoooo

My thoughts are with your family at this difficult time. Heather volunteered with my baseball team the past couple of summers and was a huge help. Her love for all children was apparent and she will be greatly missed.

I’m so sad for your family’s loss. Sandy, I once met Heather with you at the United Way office, many years ago. I’ve never forgotten her. She was lovely.

My heart and prayers go out to Heather's family. I remember being at the Hoger's to celebrate Heather and Toby's wedding. Your table always seemed to win at every trivia we were at. I wish you healing and love.

I'll remember Heather as a smart, fun, energetic friend from my childhood. She and I were Eurobuddies as we joined an art history tour around Europe in 1989. Love and prayers to her family and all those lives she touched in the Dowagiac School system.

Our family lost a very bright light this week. We were blessed to have Heather in our lives for 45 years, and while we all are hurt by her unexpected passing, may each and every one of us remember her warmly in our hearts for the rest of our lives. Heather was truly blessed to have so many friends as evidenced by the prayer vigil gathering last weekend. I thank everyone for all the support you have shown for all of her family.

I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor as I began my teaching career with Heather. We taught kindergarten together at Sister Lakes. She was such a gifted teacher and loved and served her community with everything she had. She taught me so much and I will miss her tremendously! My prayers go out to her family, friends, and students and staff at Dowagiac Schools. God has gained a beautiful angel!
