Gordon D. Krum, 90, of Decatur, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 26, 2018.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at 11am at Newel Chapel, 83313 M51, Decatur, with Pastor Jim Abshagen and Pastor Harry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, April 30, 2018, from 4pm until 7pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Decatur Human Services, First Presbyterian Church, Decatur Public Schools, Downtown Decatur Development Authority, or Hospice of Southwest Michigan. Gordy was born on December 3, 1927, to Noel & Vera (Hayne) Krum in Kalamazoo. He attended Schoolcraft High School. He then enlisted in the army for 2 years of service. In 1950, he graduated from Michigan State University. On June 10, 1950, He married Opal Hewitt at the Methodist Church in Clio, MI.
Gordy was a man of many talents. He opened and operated a Chevrolet dealership for 22 years, Airway Bowling Center in Kalamazoo for 40 years and the First State Bank for over 30 years. Gordy was President of the Michigan State Bowling Proprietors Association between 1974-1976 and was active in the Bowling Proprietors Insurance Group. He was also an Elder at Frist Presbyterian Church in Decatur, a Trustee of the Webster Memorial Library, Trustee of the Lakeview Hospital Foundation and Chairman of the Downtown Development Authority. Gordy was a member of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce, Decatur-Hamilton Fire Department, Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Elks Club and Optimist Club
Gordy is survived by his wife Opal Krum; children, Garry (Shelley) Krum of Paw Paw and Nancy Wiese of Decatur; grandchildren, Nicole, Kristine, Jacqueline, Diana, Elizabeth, Stefanie and Kreigh; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and nephews & niece, David (Linda) Krum, Janice Ann (Dennis) McNally and Jon (Laurie) Krum.
Gordy was preceded in death by his parents, Noel & Vera Krum and brother Kenneth Krum who passed away in 1976.
