Yolanda's Obituary
Yolanda Yvette Givhan Solis officially went home to be with the LORD, February 12, 2023. She was the oldest child, born November 26, 1959 to Barbara, and the late, Willie Givhan Sr. in Chicago, Illinois. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, at an early age; she was known to pray for others and pour positive encouraging thoughts, words, and deeds toward those who would receive it.
She grew up with fervor and zeal and worshipped at the South Haven Emmanuel Community Church, then was an avid member of Kalamazoo Christian Life Center, and remained a faithful tither at Friendship West Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, where Pastor Freddie Haynes was her Shepard.
Yolanda graduated in 1978 from Bangor High School where she was played clarinet for the band and sang in choir at church. She was voted the “Loudest Mouth” in the hallway; while she was respectful and quiet in the classroom. From kindergarten to high school, she earned nothing but straight A’s.
She was “one of a kind” and very giving…
She was known to train up kids in the way they should go; while she had full legal custody of her baby sister, she taught folks how to wash walls, clean restrooms, bust suds, and keep a tidy bedroom.
She was a frequent consumer of Speedway Coffee and White Zinfandel; she believed that “Best days begin with coffee and end with wine.” She was known to be extremely happy after some retail therapy even if it meant she was making a return at the local outlet mall, Macys, TJMAXX, Burlington, and Ross. Catching a deal was the name of her game!
She humbly served and was gainfully employed at numerous places; Campbell Soup, Medical Records Aid, Palisade’s Nuclear Plant in Covert, and Grifols Blood Plasma in Battle Creek, where she was a Supervisor & Center of Quality Management.
She entered the united covenant of marriage to Raúl Solis on November 11,1987 and February 10,2018. Their love affair was full of affection and private chats where they heard one another.
She is the proud mom of two sons; David Q Givhan and Zachary Solis. Her sons were her world. Her grandchildren and points of pride are Amari Chalk, David Givhan II, Hanif Givhan, who are forever blessed to continue Yolanda’s legacy.
Also, cherishing her memory are her family Winford Thomas and Barbara (mom) Givhan Thomas of Arlington, Texas; and her siblings, Willie Henry Givhan Jr. of Kalamazoo; Sandra (Carl) Givhan Johnson of Austin, TX; Demetruis Givhan of Kalamazoo; Iyana Givhan of Crestview, FL. Josephine (the late Pedro) Solis of Sherwood, AR; The late, Pete Solis, Rebecca (Antonio) Gonzales of Bangor, Angelita (Juventino) Barajas of North Little Rock, AR; Norma Deltoro of Holland; Samuel (Anisha) Solis; David (Tracy) Solis of Sherwood, AR; Jimmy (Eva) Solis of Sherwood, AR
She loved her entire family and her REAL friends know who they are, without question… She will surely be missed by her peer relatives, sons, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, co-workers, friends, and admirers. The only thing she looked forward to when working was her special work family including Mi’cah Jones and Selena Morales. All of her nieces and nephews held an exceptional relationship with her especially Mercedes Givhan and Stevie Solis. She loved the bond that was created between her and her special young confidante, Symphony Ollie. There is no doubt of how much love Yolanda gave to her family and how much her family loved her. She will truly be missed.
