Bill's Obituary

William D McNamara, affectionately known as “Mack, Bill and Billy”, 80, of Grand Junction, MI, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, surrounded by his family. Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Kathleen Ann (nee Shreiber) McNamara, parents, William and Marie (nee Chopp) McNamara and stepmother Helen McNamara, brother, Eugene (Carol) and Sister Maureen (James) Ghouleh.

Bill is survived by his children, Katy (John) Hogan of Bourbonnais, IL, William McNamara Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, and Peggy McNamara of Grand Junction, MI; granddaughter, Karen (Jeremy) Day (nee Schuit); great grandchildren, David and Kayleigh Day; and sister-in-law, Margaret (Jerry) Dahl of Orr, MN.

Bill was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago and later moved to Mokena, IL to raise his family. Bill spent most of his career in the trucking industry and was a proud member of the Chicago Teamster’s Union. After retiring, Bill moved near Osterhout Lake, a place with special childhood and adult memories in Grand Junction, MI. It was here, Bill earned the nickname “The Sheriff” for his watchful eye for any shenanigans and numerous drive-by patrols to make sure everything was in order. Known to “drop in” to keep up to date on his numerous cousins’ activities, share a cup of coffee or lend a hand (or advice) on a project. Bill was a loving Dad, Papa, Nephew, Cousin, and Friend. Bill was a proud friend of Bill W. for over 40 years. He will always be remembered for his loyalty to his family and friends, his one liner responses and his love of a good cigar!

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 9:00 - 10:00 am, followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial for both William and Kathleen McNamara at St. Mary’s Catholic Church located a 19515 115th Avenue, Mokena, IL 60448. Private Interment
