William “Bill” Johnson Jr, 83, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Saturday afternoon, August 19, 2023 at Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph, MI.
He was born on March 8, 1940, in Malden, MO, the son of William Sr and Vivian (Harden) Johnson. On June 24, 1972, Bill was united in marriage to Deborah J. (Decker) Hubbard. He was employed by Robert Bosch Co for 36 years until his retirement in 2003. Bill enjoyed restoring cars. He was very proud of the 1965 Ford F-150 pickup truck he spent many years restoring. Bill was very friendly and loved meeting new people and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was very handy and could fix anything and enjoyed helping anyone in need. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially with his great-granddaughters. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years - Debbie Johnson; two children – Karen Peterman and Billy Johnson; granddaughter – Amber (Justin) Holloway; two great-granddaughters – Emelia and Reagan Becker; sister – Jane (Harold) Bohn and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son – John Hubbard; brother – Bennie Johnson; and three sisters – Shirley Davis, Donnie McCully and Roberta Braziel.
A service celebrating Bill’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, Aug. 25, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Those wishing to share a memory of Bill online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
