Walter C. “Walt” Riemland, 92, of St. Joseph, passed away on December 18, 2021, at Caretel Inns.

Walt was born on August 17, 1929, to Carl & Hatti (Fege) Riemland in St. Joseph. He attended Trinity Lutheran Schools. Walt enlisted in the United States Army during World War II. He proudly served from 1946 to 1948 until he was honorably discharged. On August 13, 1949, Walt married the love of his life Irene Czirr at St. Peter’s Church in St. Joseph. He worked for Duke & Ehrenberg Gas Station which was later called Ovick’s Gas Station for over 42 years before his retirement.

In Walt’s spare time he enjoyed golfing and fishing. His most cherished time was spent with his family.

Walt is survived by his wife of 72 years, Irene Riemland; son Kurt Riemland; grandchildren, Julie Gorsuch, Brian (Teri) Riemland, Wendy Tarantino and Shannon (Michael) Myers; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; brother Jean (Richard) Wagner of Mishawaka, IN; son-in-law Neil Johnson of Tyler, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Hatti Riemland; daughters, Carla Johnson and Renee McBain; brother Robert (Vivianne) Riemland; and granddaughter Laura Outlaw.

Walt’s family would like to thank the staff at Caretel Inn’s for the special care they gave Walt.
