Virginia "Ginny" Emery Heinerich of St. Joseph Township passed away on June 8, 2023 at Hanson Hospice.
Ginny was a beloved member of her family and community, and will be greatly missed. Born in Flint in 1951 to Dr. William and Arlene Emery, she was a lifelong resident of the St. Joseph area. Ginny graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1969 and Northern Michigan University in 1974. She worked in many areas over the years, retiring from Imperial Printing and starting her own pet care service, Lucky Dog and Happy Cat. She fondly recalled her husband, Greg Heinerich, proposing to her at Lions Beach Park. They married in 1988 and enjoyed many years of each other's company, welcoming family and friends into their home. Ginny and Greg were close to their nephew Paul "PJ" Yakel and his wife Beverly. Beverly provided great support to them in recent years. Ginny was known for her kind demeanor and caring nature, her ability to laugh and find humor in difficult situations, and being great company. She was a dedicated daughter, caring for her parents on a daily basis in their later years.
Ginny lost her husband Greg in May, 2022, and mourned his loss greatly. Ginny is survived by her loving siblings, brother Thomas Emery (Mary Ellen) and sister Sarah Emery (Amy Elverum). Ginny found great support from her niece Beverly Yakel and the late PJ Yakel. Ginny was very close to her cousins Janet Globensky Zielke (Mark), Margaret Ann Desenberg, Louis Desenberg (Cathy) and James Desenberg (Helen).
Memorials may be directed to Hidden Acres Safe Haven, 50582 Pleasant St, Dowagiac MI 49047. A memorial gathering for Ginny will be held at Sarett Nature Center, 2300 Benton Center Rd., Benton Harbor, MI 49022 on Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M.
