Victor's Obituary

Victor E. Greer, 90, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Corewell Health Lakeland. A Homegoing Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 19, at 11 AM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor Jay Haynes officiating. Friends may visit with the family 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen, www.soupk.org. Victor was born on August 22, 1932, in Potts Camp, MS, to Nathan & Gertrude (Gilliom). He graduated from Manassas High School in Memphis, TN and Associate Degree in business from Lemoyne Owen College. Victor enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served during the Korean War; he was a Marsksman and was honorably discharged in 1958. Following his return home, he worked for Studebaker Packard Corp. and Sears. In 1970, he applied and received a loan from Whirlpool to establish his own business, Durable Products Inc., in Benton Harbor. He was also the owner of Greer’s Auto Sales and owned several rental properties. Victor also served as Berrien County Commissioner 4th District for many years. In 2000, he retired from Bosch after many years of service.
On April 1, 1998, he married Peggy Clabin who remained by his side for 31 years.
Victor is survived by his wife, Peggy; children, Vicky Peeples of Saginaw MI, Vincent (Angela) Greer of Heartland, TX, Erica Jefferson of Washington DC, Albert (Danyelle) Clabin of Kalamazoo, MI, Adrian (Katina) Clabin of Niles, MI, grandchildren, Andrea Peeples, Debra Peeples, Vincent J. (Vyshali) Greer, Jemil Peeples, Moneisha (Bruce) Williams, Adrienne Hill, Candious Clabin, Albert Clabin, Deondre Clabin, Amy Clabin, Kobi Greer, Marquis Fomby II, Keith Heath II; 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great- grandchildren; sisters-in law, Lovie Ferguson Rhodes, Ruby (Joel) Patterson, Olivia (Benson) James, and Dorothy Grubbs; brother-in-law, Matthew (Rhonda) Ellis and faithful friend Albert Franklin; special cousins Lily, Joyce, Claudette and Darrell.

He was preceded in death by his parents Nathan and Gertrude, 5 siblings and his 1st wife LeeEster Greer.
