Thomas's Obituary

Thomas A. Tokarz, 72, of St. Joseph, MI, passed away in his home with his immediate family by his side, on Sunday – August 13, 2023. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home – 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.

Tom was born on Sept. 7, 1950 in Watervliet, MI, to the late Edward and Betty (Saltkil) Tokarz.

Tom was a graduate of Benton Harbor High School and attended classes at Lake Michigan College. He served his country during the Vietnam War from 1967-1970 while in the U.S. Army, and then continued in the Army Reserve from 1970-1973. Tom then worked for years at Whirlpool and also at Weil McLain. He was an avid motorcyclist (loved riding his Harley and working on his 1948 Indian), enjoyed playing his guitars, computers, and photographing all kinds of wildlife. Tom was also a member of El Bethel Church of God in Coloma.

Tom is survived by his son – Shane (Chandra) Tokarz of Eau Claire; grandchildren – Porshea Monte, Richard Tokarz and Alisha Tokarz; and great-grandchildren - Raelynn Keene and Ershell Tokarz; siblings – Linda Jackson, Edward Tokarz, William Tokarz, Bonnie Jewell and Carl Morgan; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Friday – August 18, at 1:00pm, with visitation preceding the service from 12:00-1:00pm, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel in St. Joseph, MI. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma, MI. Military honors will be conducted by the North Berrien Military Rites Team. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s, the Shriner’s Hospital or to Caring Circle Hospice.
