Tom's Obituary

Thomas J. “Tom’ Porter, 79, of Baroda, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A Time of gathering will be held on Saturday, November 4, from 11 AM until 1 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Circle Hospice. Tom was born on March 8, 1944 in Niles to Stanley & Leona (McCarty) Porter. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1963 and continued his education by attending Lake Michigan College and later earning a certificate for Pattern Making. On January 4, 1969, Tom married the love of his life, Charlotte Pritchett, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Tom began working as a Pattern Maker for Star Pattern and would later relocate to Industrial Patterns, where he retired from in 2008 after 40 years of working in that industry. Tom was a car enthusiast; he loved attending car shows, working on cars, and would eventually build a 1967 Shelby AC Cobra of his own. Another hobby of Tom’s was wood working; he loved sharing his talent by building items for friends and family. However, what brought him the most joy was cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events and taking many vacations to Maui.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Charlotte; children, Chris (Jeanne) Porter of St. Joseph & Jason (Stacy) Porter of Stevensville; grandchildren, Harlin, Tobe, Peyton, and Cole Porter; brother, Bruce (Carolyn) Porter; and sister-in-law, Carol Pritchett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley & Leona.
