Tammy Eileen (Herman) Shembarger, 63 of St. Joseph, MI., passed away Friday, February 4, 2022.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, May 13, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI 49085. Friends may visit with the family on Friday May 13, 2022, from 11:00 AM till time of service at Starks & Menchinger Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Area 17 Special Olympics in care of Tim McDaniel (29000 64th Ave., Lawton, Mi 49065). Those wishing to leave an online memory can do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
Tammy was born July 13, 1958 to Arthur and Beverly (Martin) Herman in Owosso, Michigan. Tammy graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1976 and went on to marry her high school sweetheart in 1978. Tammy worked for Blossomland Learning Center for over 40 years where she finished her career in 2020 as a school nurse. She participated in medical disaster relief missions following global catastrophes in India, Haiti, Nepal, and the Bahamas and was always willing to help people in their most desperate times of need. Tammy loved animals, but especially cats and birds. She enjoyed traveling, hiking, biking, and spending time on Lake Michigan. Her family was her center and spending time with her children and grandchildren was her favorite activity. She was an active member of Lake Michigan Christian Center in Bridgman and sought to better understand God's word through her daily devotions.
Tammy is survived by her husband Steve Shembarger, daughter; Ashley (William) Thorsberg, son; Benjamin Shembarger, grandchildren; Maxwell & Colin Thorsberg, brothers; Arthur “Buddy” (Kris) Herman, Dennis Herman, sisters; Jill Svoboda (Bret Ogden) and Karin Thomas (Anne Whitcomb). She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur & Beverly Herman.
