Sue's Obituary
Sue A. Janke, 90, a lifelong resident of Dowagiac, passed away early Monday morning, June 5, 2023 at Corewell Health Niles Hospital in Niles, Michigan.
She was born on November 6, 1932 in Dowagiac, the daughter of the late Archie and Anne (Schram) Gard and was a 1951 graduate of Dowagiac Union High School. On May 24, 1953, Sue was united in marriage to Arthur E. Janke. She loved water parks, swimming, camping and travel of any sort. Sue was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed all activities, especially with her family. She will be immensely missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving are her four children, Debra (Jim) Johnson of Dowagiac, David (Anne) Janke of South Bend, Doug (Jamie) Janke of Niles, and Denise (Mike) Clancy of Berrien Springs; grandchildren, Matthew (Teresa) Johnson, Tara (Josh) Bullock, Derek (Abby) Janke, Alicia (Kyle) Polmounter, Amanda (Nick Little) Janke and Michael Clancy; sixteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Kaye (Don) Berta of South Bend; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 56 years, Art Janke; granddaughter, Aline Janke-Smith; and brother, Durwood Gard (as a child).
A service to celebrate Sue’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 9, at Clark Chapel – Starks Family Funeral Homes, 405 Center Street, Dowagiac, where friends may visit with the family from 11:00 AM until the time of services.
