Stu's Obituary

Stuart Lawrence Welham, 74, of St. Joseph, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Corewell Health- Lakeland, St. Joseph.

A celebration of life will be held at 3pm on Friday, October 20, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Pastor Bob Moss officiating. A time of gathering will take place from 2-3 pm, also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Church of God, 2627 Niles Ave., St. Joseph. Stu was born on February 27, 1949, to Alfred and Paula (Krockover) Welham in Michigan City, IN. He graduated from Elston High School and continued his education through Ball State University. Stu served honorably in the United States Army Reserve. Professionally, he worked as a print salesman, providing support to various companies in the region. Stu was a dedicated member at the First Church of God in St. Joseph for over 30 years, participating in men’s ministry and bible study groups.

On September 16, 1972, he married the love of his life, Vicki Sauer. Stu took great pleasure in outdoor activities, such as tending to his yard and boating, owning one for many years. One of his greatest passions was golf, especially when enjoyed with his twin brother, Steve. Stu also enjoyed vacationing, frequently arranging trips with his wife, brother and sister-in-law. He maintained a strong commitment to keeping things in meticulous order, whether it was waxing his boat and cars or maintaining his beautifully landscaped yard. Stu possessed a robust work ethic and often engaged in various projects. Above all, he loved his family and treasured the time spent with them.

Stu is survived by his wife of 51 years, Vicki Welham; daughter, Jill (Dustin) DePalma; son, Drew Welham and twin brother, Steve (Becky) Welham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Paula Welham and brother, Thomas Welham.
