Sharon's Obituary

Sharon (Rose) McAlhany, 76, of St. Joseph, MI, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Jan. 15, 2024, with her beloved husband Donald and family lovingly by her side.

Sharon, the eldest of three children, was born May 12, 1947, to Don & Lois Rose in Lawrence, Michigan. They lived in Hartford, Watervliet, and Benton Harbor before moving to Europe when she was in the 9th grade. Attending high schools in France in La Rochelle and Paris and Germany, she graduated from Mannheim American High School in 1965, where she met her husband, Donald. Following graduation, she attended the University of Maryland, Munich.

Sharon and Don married in 1967, moving to various army duty stations and returned to Michigan after his discharge. They went on to have 2 children, Kathryn McAlhany and Andrea (McAlhany) Greer.

Sharon worked at the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P Store), for several years in Hartford and Benton Harbor, and attended First Baptist Church in St. Joseph where she was an AWANA Leader for many years.

Sharon was an avid reader all her life and loved doing crafts until arthritis made that impossible. In later years, several medical issues including Parkinson’s, robbed her of her mobility, but not her tenacious spirit.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years Donald McAlhany, her daughters Kathryn McAlhany (David Reynolds) and Andrea (McAlhany) Greer (Ryan Greer), and nieces and nephews, Stephanie (Pradon) Carrico, Micael Pradon, April (House) Beck (David), and Ronald House (Desiree), great-nephews, Jake, Noah, and Eli. She was predeceased by her parents Donald and Lois Rose, sister Laurie (Rose) Pradon, and brother David Rose.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (stjude.org). Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
