Sharon's Obituary

Sharon Ann Forbes, nee Zakrowski, passed away on September 29, 2023. She was the daughter of Arthur and Ethel Zakrowski and spent her formative years in South Bend, Indiana where she graduated from high school. She was raised in a Polish Catholic community in South Bend and was very proud of her heritage.

In adulthood Sharon lived in a number of states including California and Florida before moving to Michigan where she lived in a number of cities throughout the state. Her occupations included working in a nuclear plant, the health care field, a legal office, banking, and retail businesses. Sharon made many friends wherever she went and was in contact with many of them until her death. Most recently Sharon was a library clerk at the South Haven Memorial Library where she worked until health issues made it prohibited to continue. She also worked part-time at the N and R Department Store before its closing.

In her free time Sharon loved cooking and called it her therapy. She also enjoyed baking cakes which she gave to friends regularly. She liked watching cooking shows on television as well as many programs on PBS. She enjoyed caring for her three cats, the last of many cat companions she had throughout her life.

Sharon was a member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church, and also occasionally attended services at Epiphany Episcopal Church as well.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother Arthur, and sister-in-law Diane. She is also survived by her three beloved cats – Malcolm, Twiggy and Eddy.

Sharon was known for her feisty and tenacious personality which helped get her through some difficult physical hardships. She was equally well-known for her kind and generous nature, frequently reaching out to help both people and animals in need.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at the Filbrandt Chapel from 6:00 P.M. till the time of the Rosary at 7:00 P.M. There will be an additional Visitation on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Saint Basil Catholic Church from 10:00A.M. till the time of the Mass beginning at 11:00 A.M. Donations in her memory can be made to the Harbor Humane Society and the South Haven Memorial Library.
