Sharon's Obituary

Sharon (Sherry) Elaine Koehler Edris died at age 76. Sherry was born in Herington, Kansas. She graduated from Herington High School in 1964 as a member of the National Honor Society. She attended Brown-Mackie School of Business in Salina, Kansas and received an Executive Secretary honor diploma. Sherry worked in Wichita, Kansas at the Fourth National Bank Trust Department for two years. In 1967 she took the US Civil Service exam, and was accepted to work at the Central Intelligence Agency in Langley, Virginia in a secretarial position.

Sherry met her husband Charles Lawrence (Larry) Edris in Virginia who was in the Army and working at the Pentagon. After his discharge, they were married in Herington, Kansas in October, 1968. They moved to Indiana where Larry’s Family lived. Larry was employed at Lincoln National Life Insurance Company in Fort Wayne. Sherry worked as a secretary in Fort Wayne for ten years and then became a full-time mother after adopting two girls.

In 1986 they built a retirement home on Lake Michigan between South Haven and Saugatuck/Douglas. In February 1998, Larry took early retirement, and in June, 1999, they moved to Lake Michigan.

After retirement, Sherry and Larry took many trips in the United States and annual trips overseas to many countries on river cruises and land tours. In 2008 they went on a Volga River cruise in Russia where Sherry traced her German/Russian ancestry. In 20013 Sherry published the Koehler/Schmidt Genealogy Booklet of her family.

Sherry was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Scott Club in South Haven, Michigan and several other local organizations in South Haven and Saugatuck/Douglas.

Sherry is survived by her husband Larry and two daughters, Andrea Lynn Sierks (Michael) and Stefanie Jo Edris, as well as two grandsons, Aiden Lawrence Sierks and Gavin Robert Sierks. She is also survived by a brother, Leo Edward Koehler and a sister, Sandra Jeanette Irelan, and a niece and nephew.

Visitation will be on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 5:00 PM – 7:00PM at the Filbrandt Chapel and at First United Methodist Church from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 1st, 2023. Funeral Services will begin at 3:00 PM at the church with Pastor Stephanie Norton officiating. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church: 429 Michigan Ave, South Haven, MI 49090, We Care Community Resource Center: 1301 M-43 Suite 2B, South Haven, MI 49090 or to the South Haven Scott Club: 652 Phoenix St., South Haven, MI 49090. Sherry will be laid to rest at Emmanuels Cemetery in Rockford, Indiana.
