Babe's Obituary

Royal T. "Babe" Laraway Jr. of Pullman, passed away at home on Thursday, April 6, 2023. He was born September 7, 1934 in Pullman to Royal Sr. and Helen Laraway and united in marriage to the late Arlene Ann Mattson on November 26, 1954.

Babe is survived by children Sharon (Gary) Gordon, Deborah Laraway (Doug Bale), Tom Laraway, Tim (Jodie) Laraway, daughter in law Joan Laraway, 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 69 years, Arlene Laraway and his son, Terry Laraway. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Doris McCracken and Buster Laraway.

Babe was born, raised and died in Pullman and spent his life working and living in Pullman. He met and married Arlene, the love of his life, and together they raised 5 children. He founded Laraway and Son's House Moving in 1959 from which he retired in 1980 with his sons Tom and Tim taking over the reins. Babe also worked for the U.S. Postal service for 31 years as a Rural Mail Carrier. He was the best father, grandfather and friend it was possible to be, full of wisdom and always set a fine example of living life to the fullest. Babe and Arlene were very hospitable and always had a house filled with family and friends. They enjoyed wintering in Florida after retirement. Babe loved his family, his friends, his Golden Retriever, BB, his Model T, vintage and new automobiles and driving fast. Babe was an extraordinary man who never had a challenge he couldn't meet.

Visitation for Babe will be Sunday, April 23, 2023 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., at Filbrandt Chapel Funeral Home, 1076 S. Bailey Ave, South Haven, Michigan. Visitation will continue Monday April 24, 2023 at Casco United Methodist Church, 880 66th St. South Haven, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Pastor Christina Fleming will officiate.
