Rose L. (Jackson) Sturgeon, 77, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 12PM, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor Seth LaRue officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 10AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Marie Yaeger Cancer Center, 3900 Hollywood Rd., St. Joseph or Relay for Life, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741. Rose was born on December 8, 1946, to James & Claire Nadine (Elbel) Jackson in South Bend, IN. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1965, then continued her education at Lake Michigan College studying nursing. Prior to retirement, Rose worked Dean Food’s then Comfort Keeper’s.
Rose enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling. She also enjoyed playing bingo at the St. Joseph Senior Center. As a cancer survivor, Rose felt compelled to give her time volunteering for Berrien County’s Relay for Life. Rose was a member of the DAV (Disabled Veteran’s) and First Assembly of God where she volunteered for different church activities.
Rose is survived by her children, Melissa Thar of Benton Harbor and Robert (Barb Lee) Sturgeon of Berrien Springs; grandchildren, Chris (Shelby Caprez) Thar, Emily (Greg Hammond) Thar and Devin Sanders; great-grandchildren, Rylee, Owen, Landon, Annalee and Romi; and sibling, Judy Jackson and Richard “Rick” Jackson.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, James & Claire Nadine Jackson; siblings, Robert Jackson, James Jackson, Ronald Jackson; and half-sister Jeannie.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 269-556-9450.
